The EU Drinking Water Directive (DWD 2020/2184) introduces important innovations that will have major impacts on production processes and how products in contact with drinking water are placed on the market. The compliance requirements will be applicable at European and national levels.
As of next January 1, 2027, when the new European Directive will come into application, the transition period 2027-2032 will begin, allowing a gradual process of moving towards full implementation of the new framework according to the various decisions of the member states, at the latest by January 1, 2033.
Following this latest date, all products coming into contact with drinking water will, without exception, have to comply with the requirements of the EU DWD and possess the relevant EU certification and marking. ICIM SpA is the first body in Italy accredited for the new Drinking Water Directive.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THIS

According to the European Commission, certification bodies authorized by national authorities to conduct conformity assessments may be notified.
Only after
31.12 2026
Once the body has been notified, the necessary certificates for placing DWD-compliant products on the market can be issued.
Before
31.12 2026
Accredited bodies, as specified by the Commission, can initiate certification procedures with the aim of issuing the certificate as early as possible once notified.
